Hi!

My name is Marcela. I was born in Córdoba, Argentina, and I am now living in Cyprus with my husband (who is from Serbia) and my twin babies, Luka and Zoe (born in August 2008, here in Nicosia). For the past year, I have been The Celebration Girl for friends and family alike, the go-to person for party inspiration and baking advice. So, starting a blog on the subject seemed only natural. It is my way of sharing with them (and others like you!) these newly discovered passions.
I fell in love with baking when I was 8 years old, during a patisserie course for little girls, where I learnt to make ladyfingers, apple pie, profiteroles, royal icing, buttercream, as well as some basic piping techniques. I loved it so much that my grandmother offered me a tiny wooden rolling-pin, which I still have, which I still use occasionally, and which I hope will become my babies’ when they learn to bake by my side.Baking is my meditation: it relaxes me and allows me to let my mind go, focusing completely on what I am preparing. Baking brings childhood memories and makes my house a home.
I fell in love with photography when I was 16, during a course I took with two of my best friends. At that time, I used a Minolta Reflex Camera that belonged to my father but buying and developing films was very expensive, so I couldn’t take as many pictures as I wanted to. Then came digital photography and problem solved! Two years ago we bought a Canon Rebel Xsi (450D), which is the camera I still use -and adore. I am aware of how much I have to learn to be able to take better pictures, but I am taking it one shoot at a time and taking pictures every day for that purpose.
Finally, I fell in love with party planning and crafting almost one year ago, when organizing my babies’ 2nd birthday. I visited a craft store for the first time and, at the sight of all those colourful ribbons, bags of different classes, glitter, crayons and papers, I started feeling my head bursting with ideas. The last time I had done anything remotely crafty had been in highschool. But there I was, fascinated at the sight of all that and wanting to start making things. By the time my babies’ party was over, I almost couldn’t wait to start planing the next one.
A few more things about me: I love travelling and I also write a travel blog (in Spanish) called Diario de una Trotamundos, which you can check here. I love the smell of freshly sharpened pencils, the perfume of magnolias, the sight of lavender fields. I love how the grass smells after the rain, the breeze of cool summer nights and the sound of autumn leaves crushed under my feet. I love jazz, and blues, and old French classics, the movie Amélie and Julio Cortazar’s books.
I hope that you will enjoy reading this blog and, if you do, please leave a comment. I would love to hear from you!
